The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) said it is deeply saddened by the death of Jamaica Labour Party councillor, Owen Palmer, who died tragically Sunday morning as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

In a news release, SERHA said Palmer was appointed to its board in April 2016 and also served as a member of the Spanish Town Hospital’s Management Committee.

“He was a respected and valued member of the board who was committed to achieving its mandate. His dedication to public service will not be forgotten,” SERHA said, adding “Our hearts go out to his family and friends, and our prayers are with them.”

Palmer, the councillor for the Homestead Division and minority leader in the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, was reportedly returning from Old Harbour about 7am when, upon reaching Willowdene, the vehicle climbed an embankment and overturned.

He and another man who was travelling in his car were killed in the crash.
