A joint police/military operation led by the St Catherine North Police was carried out in the old capital of Spanish Town on Friday, resulting in the seizure of two firearms and several rounds of ammunition, and the detention of several persons, including a woman.

Reports are that between 11:00 a.m. and 4:10 p.m., a police team comprised of officers attached to the Mobile Reserve, the St Andrew North Division, the St Catherine South Division, the St Thomas Division, the National Police College of Jamaica, and members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) conducted the operation, which included a focus on an area known as ‘Big Tree’ in Spanish Town.

The team also conducted searches in the bus park and at premises on Spencer Lane, Valdez Road, in Tawes Pen, and on Wellington Street.

A total of 47 premises, 123 houses, 16 unfinished buildings, seven motor cars, two shops and 189 persons were reportedly searched.

Premises on March Pen Road were also searched and one Sig-Pro 9mm pistol containing sixteen 9mm rounds of ammunition, and one Corandi 9mm pistol with a magazine containing thirteen 9mm rounds, were seized.

An additional eleven 9mm rounds were found in a beverage bottle.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizures.
